Client Proofs

PRIVATE CLIENTS: My private clients and their family and friends can access and review digital proofs online. After your photo session, and when your proofs are ready for viewing, you will receive an email from me with your password to see your gallery of images and order prints on-line. Please note that your final high-resolution images will have no copyright marks. On-line images are low-resolution proofs only. Final prints will be color-corrected and optimized for the highest possible quality. Not all monitors have the same specifications. The color in the images you see below may differ slightly from the actual prints you receive.

Your photos will be stored in a password-protected online gallery for 3 months. You can order a variety of prints and merchandise from your images. Your family, friends and anyone else who you share your password with can also order prints and merchandise from your images. I save your images in a back up file on my computer for 6 months. Locate your name and click on the Protected Gallery image. Then enter the password that I provided you and click on the Submit button. One of the common reasons why clients are unable to get their password to work is because of unnecessary spaces before or after the password that they enter. Please make sure that you are not adding a space because it does count as a character when they are entered.

Photo Essay: A Sense of Belonging… : ...We humans are social beings. We come into the world as the result of others' actions. We survive here in dependence on others. Whether we like it or not, there is hardly a moment of our lives when we do not benefit from others' activities. For this reason it is hardly surprising that most of our happiness arises in the context of our relationships with others. Nor is it so remarkable that our greatest joy should come when we are motivated by concern for others. But that is not all. We find that not only do altruistic actions bring about happiness but they also lessen our experience of suffering. Here I am not suggesting that the individual whose actions are motivated by the wish to bring others' happiness necessarily meets with less misfortune than the one who does not. Sickness, old age, mishaps of one sort or another are the same for us all. But the sufferings which undermine our internal peace -- anxiety, doubt, disappointment -- these things are definitely less. In our concern for others, we worry less about ourselves. When we worry less about ourselves an experience of our own suffering is less intense. What does this tell us? Firstly, because our every action has a universal dimension, a potential impact on others' happiness, ethics are necessary as a means to ensure that we do not harm others. Secondly, it tells us that genuine happiness consists in those spiritual qualities of love, compassion, patience, tolerance and forgiveness and so on. For it is these which provide both for our happiness and others' happiness. --His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama Photo Essay, A Sense of Belonging asks more questions than it offers answers. What is homeless and what is a sense of belonging? If you are homeless, do you have a sense of belonging? Do you have a sense of belonging if you are not homeless? I do not know if these individuals are homeless. I wonder if they have a sense of belonging. Photo Essay: His Last Road Trip... : ...he will be our friend for always and always and always. --Rudyard Kipling I met Jaime while I was photographing at Monterey Bay, California. She was walking near the water with a friend and they both were with their dogs. I noticed that Jaime was pulling her dog Taz, in a red Radio Flyer wagon. I asked if I could photograph her and Taz. During the photo shoot, Jaime told me that Taz was quite ill and this was his last day before being put down. He always loved to walk at Monterey Bay so this was to be his special day and their final time together. I was very touched by the story and Jaime's obvious love for Taz who easily returned the love. In conversation, silence, and walking I reminisced of the passing of my own animal companions. Taz was a beautiful animal whose eyes revealed his true essence and inner sprit. Photo Essay: Canada Geese Family : My father's originally from Buxton (N.C.), and he loved those geese flying overhead. His favorite were the Canadian geese. He could go out there and honk just like one. And on the day of my daddy's funeral, when the hearse pulled up our driveway, a flock of Canadian geese flew overhead in a V formation, honking away. I could almost reach up and touch them they flew so low. --Cindy Miller I was hiking along a cliff trail overlooking the beautiful ocean at Point Lobos State Reserve, Carmel, California. It was a cold and windy early morning, and I nearly lost my camouflaged boonie hat. Many previous times I walked this same path looking for subjects to photograph. I had photographed hummingbirds, lizards and certainly the majestic ocean shore and cove. This time I heard "wheep-wheep-wheep" but at first, I could not tell where it was coming from. The wind was dispersing the sound. I was not even sure of the source. After a few moments, I heard "wheee-oow" and then "wheep-wheep-wheep" just as I observed a gander leading his Canada Geese (Branta Canadensis) family out from the brush and climbing up a rise toward me. He called out in a low-pitched "ahonk" as he saw me. The adult female goose, slightly smaller than the male, was following the gander in a protective manner protecting her new brood. She called out with a much quicker and higher-pitched "hink". The goslings periodically gave a wheezy soft call or a drawn out whinny. This was a marvelous sight indeed. I nearly forgot to photograph them. I could not believe how incredibly yellow the goslings were. I wonder if you can imagine just how soft they looked. Photo Essay: Canada Geese Family

Photo Essay: Family Reunion : All his successors gone before him have done ’t; and all his ancestors that come after him may. --William Shakespeare I heard that the P-51D WWII Mustang fighter was going to land at San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport, San Luis Obispo, California. When I arrived, I saw it landing a ways down the runway and I took several photographs. The aircraft was as beautiful as I expected it to be. What I found out later was a very interesting story. In the rear seat was Marcia Beckman, age 84. This was the highlight of a large family reunion. Her husband, Ralph Beckman (deceased) was a B-29 bomber pilot. Her brother, Charles Harris, was a B-52 bomber pilot. The pilot was her nephew, Jeff Harris who is a Captain for American Airlines. He supervised the two-year restoration of the P51D that flew for the 15th Air Force in Italy. The owner is Jack Croul who is with Allied Fighters in Chino, California. Jack was a Captain and flew a B-17G bomber for the 96th Bomber Group from the Snetterton Heath Airfield in the UK. Jeff's brother, Dave, is a corporate pilot. Marcia is the last alive of her generation. Marcia said that they flew low over the cliffs at the coast and he even inverted the aircraft. Photo Essay: Family Reunion

Photo Essay: Lynx : I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky; and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by. --John Masefield I was walking along the U.S. Coast Guard Wharf at the Breakwater Cove Marina, Monterey, California looking for Sea Otters to photograph near the large granite blocks of the breakwater. The wind was blow the light fog away from the Wharf. I had already walked up and down the long pier several times without seeing anything moving but the gulls and a few people strolling on the pier. Then, I saw an unfamiliar sight. Just over the horizon, what looked like the masts of a large sailing vessel, but unlike anything, I had seen before. It was sailing toward Cannery Row. I had to use my AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens on my Nikon D-200 10.2MP camera to see a larger view. I stood on the pier captivated watching the ship appear grow larger. I realized with pleasure that it was a “Tall Ship.” This was my first experience seeing a “Tall Ship” in person and it was very exciting to imagine how this was a more common sight a hundred years ago. From the end of the wharf, I could see the ship sail near Cannery Row and as it turned toward me, it fired its cannons. I could see the puffs of smoke. I figured that it represented an historical naval attack. It was an amazing site and took me back 100 years. As it came closer, many people gathered around me watching the ship in a hushed silence. I took a number of photographs with my mid range telephoto as the majestic ship approached. I later found out that it was the “Tall Ship” Lynx, which is an interpretation of an actual privateer named Lynx built by Thomas Kemp in 1812 in Fell's Point, Maryland. She was among the first ships to defend American freedom by evading the British naval fleet then blockading American ports and serving in the important privatizing efforts. The Lynx sailed just beyond the end of the rock sea wall and nearly stopped. Then several times, it fired its cannons at the entrance to the harbor. There were barriers but I managed a few photographs. Later, I photographed the Lynx sailing near the Old Fisherman’s Wharf. I took additional photographs after it docked. Photo Essay: San Quentin State Prison "BIG HOUSE" : One of the many lessons that one learns in prison is, that things are what they are and will be what they will be. --Oscar Wilde When I take the Larkspur Ferry from the North Bay to the Ferry Building in San Francisco, California, it passes near San Quentin State Prison in Marin County, California known as the “Big House.” My earliest recollection of San Quentin is when I listened to Dragnet on a small black and white TV as a child. Most of the criminals depicted on the show ended up on Death Row at the “Big House” or execution. I took these series of photographs from the ferry during several trips.
